Notes and reflections on Janet Mancini’s Purposeful Mothering talk to MOMSnext November 2011.
Creating memories with your children is super important! As they grow up they’ll remember the fun traditions and things that you all did together.
It’s important for your family to realize that “we’re fun!”
*Vacation* – Go away together and only go with your family (no boyfriends, etc). You have to learn how to vacation together and have a good time.
Hike – Songs, stories, perseverance… all from hiking. Once we ended a hike and our keys were locked in the car (my honeymoon – never forgotten!)
Camp – I camped in a cow pasture when I was little, no fun, but we had some good stories!
Celebrate Together – (Brothers Day, Easter, April Fools)
Easter Egg Hunt – Janet said that her kids still come back every year to hunt for eggs!
Family Night Game Night or Movie Night – every Friday night with Pizza (the first word our kids could spell) at our house!
Family Night using Focus on the Family Tool Chest
I feel like Grandparents get the best deal on this one. Our recent weekend with them was spent hiking, eating favorite foods, building forts and having adventures. My youngest wrote 10 pages about his weekend in his school journal! I think when he spends weekends with us he only writes about 3 pages.
