How to Study for a Test (with printable)

How to Study for a Test

Back-to-School time also means Back-to-Testing!  Did you realize that many students don’t know how to study for a test? This simple 5-Day Plan will help your child feel prepared and not rushed at the last minute.  We keep this handy schedule posted.  When a teacher announces a test, we count back 5 days from the test and then add in all of these important details below.

Test Taking Tips, How to Study for a Test, 5 Day Test Prep

Our old way of thinking:  A Study Guide would come home and get posted on the fridge.  Our hope was that the information would magically transfer to our children’s brains.  Right?

Our NEW way of thinking:  Plan ahead, do a little bit at a time, and you’ll be ready.  Follow the 5-day plan below.

How to Study for a Test Printable. FREE Follow the easy 5 Day Plan. Take the stress out of test prep. Great for teachers, parents, and students.

Day 1

Make flashcards on 3×5 cards.  Write the word on the front, definition on the back.

Day 2

Highlight important details.  Then make an acronym (the initial letters of other words and pronounced as a word).  Example:  NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration).

Day 3

Take out the items you already know and focus on what you don’t.  This is my favorite part!  No need to keep studying the things you already know!

Day 4

Study… with anyone!

Day 5

Review one last time.  You should be already.  No cramming necessary.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………

I didn’t come up with this one.  We hired a tutor for my son.  Was it a hard decision to make?  No.  Just because I’m a teacher doesn’t mean I’m always the best teacher for my children.  I prefer to be their mom.  When it came time for studying or organization help, my husband and I chose to seek guidance from a professional.  It’s amazing how ideas sound so much better coming from someone else!  I’m happy to share our experiences and new knowledge with you.
